About Me

My name is Alejo.

For most of my adult life, I worked in marketing and product development. I marketed brands, launched products, managed projects, and did all the things responsible adults are supposed to do.

Then something unexpected happened.

In my fifties, I started doing stand-up comedy.

After moving from Florida to Tennessee, I began taking acting classes as a way to meet people and try something different.

Before long, I was writing scenes for class. Then short scripts. Then teaching stand-up comedy and producing shows. Then short films.

What began as curiosity slowly became a second creative life.

The Freedom 65 Project is an attempt to document that journey.

This website is home to my essays, stories, screenplays, short films, observations, and occasional lessons learned the hard way.

Some of the work is funny.

Some of it is not.

All of it is an attempt to better understand people, relationships, creativity, and the business of being alive.

I don't know where this project will ultimately lead, and that's part of the reason for doing it.

What happens when a middle-aged guy decides to seriously pursue art, writing, filmmaking, and comedy?

We're about to find out.
